From Spud Harvest to Oil Fields...

Last year I did a post about all the things I hated about being a spud harvest widow.  I came across it the other day.  Here's the bottom line..

...a widow is a widow

SPUD HARVEST WIDOW:
(OIL FIELD WIDOW):
Not being able to eat meals as a family
(yep)

Dad leaving before kids are awake
Dad coming home after kids are asleep in bed
(Only having dad around a couple days of the month, if he's lucky, and thats usually spent at the office and making the rounds to all the relatives)

Dad not being home for family scriptures and prayers
(not even on Sundays)

Not being able to communicate with him between the hours of 7:00 AM and 12:00 AM (on a GOOD day) unless I want to get him fired for talking to someone OTHER than the company!
-I actually forgot they had that rule last year...
(No time restraint, but be prepared for your phone call to last 5-10 minutes before getting interupted by drivers and the boss...yes even at MIDNIGHT!)

Not getting a break from the kids
(EVER)

The rumors and BULL that always goes on
(THANK GOODNESS NO!! Just prospects and better opportunities!!)

The stress that comes with the weather..too hot, cold, wet, or dry, never perfect digging conditions!
(Still a factor but not as devestating as losing a whole year of crops..too slick in the winter, too muddy in the spring and summer thunderstorms)

Having to go without hunny-do's for a MONTH-things like taking the garbage and mowing the law!
(..we're just shy of 10 months now...THANKS Dustin and Skidmore's!)

I'm very happy to say the END IS HERE!
Right in the middle of nothing other than SPUD HARVEST!

So..a widow is a widow...lets just hope HE gets to be the REAL widow(er) in the end! And its not just all preping me for the real thing!! :)

Sounds a lot like the military! I've never really thought about other jobs that create "widows." It's a good reminder to me not to get too bogged down in the "woe is me's," as there are plenty of people out there going through the same/similar things whether you are aware of it or not!
